Higher Development Award Programme

The Higher Development Award (HDA) is a personal development programme which enables clinical and non-clinical support workers to build knowledge and skills to support career progression. The fully funded programme provides the opportunity for self-development and to be the best you can within your current role to meet the ever-growing needs within the health and social care systems

All levels/ courses will have an induction/ introductory session before starting the course. This provides time to detail the course content, sets expectations, introductions to online platforms and provides an opportunity for learners to meet their tutor and have any questions answered. Initial assessments and eligibility checks will also be completed.

Level 1: 6 Month Programme (6 x Full day delivery)


Level 2: 6 Month Programme (6 x Full day delivery)

  • Induction session (course detail, expectations)
  • Functional skills sessions that enable the individual to achieve Level 2 in maths and English
  • NCFE Team Leading L2 Certificate
  • Online & face to face delivery options available
  • Workbook/ assignments to be completed on an online platform
  • Service Improvement Project


Level 3: 9 Month Programme (9 x Full day delivery) Minimum group size: 15


Essential Digital Skills will be embedded into each curriculum, with support provided to suit the needs of the individual.

Functional skills delivery will consist of 6 x 2hour live streamed classes or classroom- based delivery for each subject.  Participants will have access to an individual learning plan based on diagnostic assessment that includes self-study resources via BKSB live.  Participants will also have additional access to online workshops and resources for a range of topics throughout the programme.

Cohorts of 15 per group with delivery starting from September 2022. Start dates for each level every half term (6 start dates for each level per year), with capacity for more to be added according to need. Groups can be mixed from various trusts to hit the minimum group sizes. All courses will have a single point of contact within WSC.

Eligibility Criteria

Fully funded for those: Aged 19+ (Born before the 1.9.2003) & Lived in the EEA/ UK for 3 year.
