Aim

  • To enable the student to acquire evidence based up to date knowledge and skills in prevention and management of pressure ulcers (PU) and moisture associated skin damage (MASD)

Learning outcomes: the student will be able to

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the physiopathology and associated factors associated with prevention and management of PU and MASD
  • Demonstrate an understanding and competence in using Purpose T risk assessment combined with clinical judgement
  • Understand how to use all the elements of aSSKINg in a care plan devised with patient and carers
  • Understand the complexity of the staging of PU and its management
  • Achieve basic knowledge of pressure relieving equipment and relate it to practice

Competency to be achieved with:

  • Reading the local guidelines on prevention and management of pressure ulcers
  • Completing the teaching pack and supervised practice in agreement with your supervisor
