Event overview
Lifestyle medicine is a global medical discipline, teaching clinicians behavioural techniques to support patients with some of the root causes of ill health. These include but are not limited to assessing and addressing poor mental wellbeing, social and economic indicators, obesity and gut microbiome, inactivity, poor sleep and harmful substances or behaviours such as smoking, alcohol and tech use. The aim of lifestyle medicine is to identify, treat and potentially reverse ill health whilst minimising the need for long-term medications.
The RCGP have analysed feedback following the overwhelming success of the first Lifestyle medicine ODE in April 2025 to develop a more rounded understanding of the subject area. This One Day Essentials Lifestyle medicine conference will describe the evidence and how this practice is applied in everyday clinical practice for GPs. It will explore ways in which it is used to reduce health inequality with reference to deprived communities. Speakers will also address lifestyle medicine and where it sits within population and public health when discussing child health as well as how lifestyle medicine can deliver person-centered care and recognises the wider aspects of wellbeing such as hot and cold therapies.
All live One Day Essentials conferences (ODEs) are free and available exclusively to RCGP members. Check your diary, register to attend, or if you can’t make it access the content on REWIND. You can catch up on all the recordings and presentation slides for up to nine months afterwards, and you can register at any point during this time.
Note: we endeavour to upload content as quickly as possible after the conference; this typically takes up to two weeks.
