Incorporating immunisation into the role of the Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) has limitations and implications to clinical care and should therefore be considered carefully by the whole healthcare team. Training in immunisation is essential for HCSWs whose employers wish them to immunise. It is recommended that HCSWs should only be considered for training where they:
- hold a Level 3 Qualification (e.g. NVQ3, Level 3 diploma, A-levels) or have completed the Care Certificate
And
- have at least two years’ experience as a HCSW
We therefore require an application form for each delegate from the practice/line manager stating that the delegate meets the required standards, detailing their length of experience as an HCSW and the qualification they hold and that they are prepared to support the delegate in this extended role.
Course Structure
The training will consist of e-Learning (approx. 6.5 hours), full day webinar on 16th November and a half day practical session on the morning of 23rd November (09:30-12:30) at Hemingford Pavilion (Hayward Hall Room)
The trainer will cover flu vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine and B12 injections but NOT the nasal flu for children or the shingles vaccine.
Teas and Coffees will be provided for the practical session.
The pre-webinar e-learning will be sent out at least 2 weeks ahead of the webinar (along with workbooks and trainee immuniser portfolios) to ensure that delegates have time to complete their e-learning.
