Event Overview

Essentials Webinar Series is a programme of 1.5-hour webinars – broadcast live – providing expert specialist clinical training and essential information. These webinars are recorded live and are available for delegates to access freely for six months from the webinar date.

This webinar will focus on the topic of minimising iatrogenic harm from anticholinergics in elderly patients. Anticholinergics include antihistamines, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anti-incontinence medications which are all commonly and routinely prescribed. Additionally, as general practice increases shared care with secondary care, a GP’s scope of practice and prescribing is inevitably changing. This seminar aims to address either pre-existing interest or unmet learning needs in common pharmacotherapy errors and risks in primary care, starting off with anticholinergics.

Learning objectives:

  • Anticholinergic burden – review of the evidence surrounding anticholinergics and harm
  • How to quickly assess a patient’s anticholinergic burden score
  • Quick deprescribing strategies that can be employed in a 10 minute consultation
