Building on the success of the NHSE-funded GPN Fellowship programme, our CPTH Preceptorship for Newly Qualified Nurses is designed to support adjustment and integration into the workplace following completion of study.

Applications for cohort 4 of the Nurse Preceptorship are now open.

The deadline for applications is Friday 16th January 2026.

What is it and who is it for?

The Preceptorship is an 12-month programme of funded CPD time, education, mentoring and peer support.

There are 12 places available on cohort 4 of the programme, which is open to Nurses working in a Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Practice, who have qualified in the last 12 months. (Candidates must be no more than 12 months post-qualification on the cohort commencement date.)

What is provided for the preceptee:

  • 2 days per month of CPD time for the first 6 months of the programme
  • 1 day per month of CPD time for the remaining 12 months of the programme
  • Monthly Fellowship day including Education session
  • Bi-monthly Clinical Supervision
  • Fee-free cervical screening and 2-day immunisations and vaccinations training
  • Support to undertake small QI project in year 2

What is expected from the preceptee?

  • 90% attendance at monthly fellowship/education sessions and clinical supervision
  • Active contribution to Clinical Supervision sessions

What is provided for the Practice?

  • Funding grant to practice supporting 2 days of CPD time per month in the first 6 months and 1 day per month for the remaining 12 months (£3,870 per programme)
  • Fee-free training for Cervical Screening and Immunisations and Vaccinations

What is expected from the Practice:

  • Provision of an in-practice preceptor who regularly meets with the preceptee
  • Supporting the Preceptee to meet the 90% attendance requirement for the monthly education and clinical supervision
  • Release of the Preceptee for their designated CPD time

Cohort 3 Timetable

There will be 3 introductory days:

Induction:  17th February, 10:00-12:00 (Online)

Session 1:  3rd March, 09:00-13:00 (Venue, TBC)

Session 2:  21st April, 09:00-13:00 (Venue, TBC)

Fellows will then join the main Fellowship & Preceptorship Education Programme from May 2026 (Date TBC)

Tailored Preceptorship Education

C&P Training Hub has developed a tailored programme of monthly fellowship sessions that all Nurses on the CPTH Preceptorship are expected to attend. The full day sessions, which take place on Tuesdays, are delivered by experienced clinicians and trainers and include education sessions, clinical supervision and e-learning. This programme is constantly evolving and you can keep up to date on our Preceptorship Education Programme web page.

Training Hub Learning Programme

Preceptees will also have priority access to the Training Hub’s full learning programme. Check out the events calendar on our website for more information.

Nurses enrolled in the programme will be booked into the following training:

  • Induction to Primary Care days
  • Wound management
  • Lower limb module
  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Cervical cytology
  • Intro to Contraception
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Mental Health for non-Specialists

Training dates are yet to be confirmed. Multiple sessions will be offered throughout the year.

Funding is via a grant to the employing practice, there is no funding direct to preceptees.

This Preceptorship is funded by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board (ICB).
