The programme is designed for both clinical and non-clinical staff working in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System. Generally non-clinical staff are expected to complete Tier 1 training.
Course overview:
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is for people who require general understanding of the support autistic people or people with a learning disability may need. It is the government’s preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff and more information can be found here About the training | Health Education England (hee.nhs.uk)
It comes in two standardised tiers of blended learning and staff are required to undertake Tier 1 or Tier 2 training depending on their role. This session is Tier 1.

The content of this training is mapped to the “Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting Autistic People” and the “Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting People with a Learning Disability”
Pre – Course Requisites:
- This course is part of a blended pathway, and completion of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism e-learning module is required prior to attendance. It can be completed online via e-Learning for Healthcare. The session will refer to this module, so attendees may find it useful to refresh their knowledge before attendance if it has been some time since they’ve completed.
