We are delighted to invite you to a Discharges Medicines Service webinar on 22 September 2022 at 14:00-15:00, hosted by the NHS England’s Transformation Directorate and Primary, Community and Personalised Care Directorate.

The NHS Discharge Medicines Service (DMS) is an essential service provided by all community pharmacies. It was launched by NHS England and Improvement on 15 February 2021. The DMS enables NHS Trusts to refer patients who would benefit from extra support related to their medicines regimen after they are discharged by the Trust, to a community pharmacy.

The recently published NHS England 2022/23 Business Plan describes the need to improve access to primary care, with the commitment to “leverage the benefits of community pharmacy through supporting the implementation of…the community discharge medication service.”

For 2022/23, the national Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN) is being implemented to support the NHS to increase the number of discharges referred to the NHS DMS to between 0.5 to 1.5% of all discharges.

The webinar will serve as an introduction to the DMS and CQUIN, promote its benefits to Trusts and consider the strategic direction going forward.

Presenters will include:

  • Tony Jamieson, Clinical Lead for Medicines Safety Improvement, NHSEI – to give introduction and background
  • Dr Wasim Baqir, Senior Pharmacist, Pharmacy Integration Programme, NHSEI – to share CQUIN data collection and referral technology available
  • Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust & Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust – to share good practice in delivering the DMS
