Brief synopsis of the session

Review of the evidence for effective exercise to help maintain independence and reduce risk of falls with a focus on the importance of strength and balance training and a look at exercise interventions that are ineffective, giving you the tools to support care homes. Examples of simple effective exercises and information on how to access community provision.

Learning Objectives

To understand the current evidence behind exercise for older people. To increase knowledge and understanding of the importance of specific exercise with a focus on strength and balance. To understand the importance of appropriate frequency, intensity, and duration of exercises. To increase knowledge of referral pathway for exercise in the community. To give a greater understanding of the Exercise specialists role within CPFT.
