This education session is being delivered as part of the GP Fellowship Education Programme and is open to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough GPs who are enrolled on the GP Fellowship Scheme or who are within their first 5 years of practice.

Medically unexplained symptoms make up a significant proportion of presentations in primary care. These symptoms can have an enormous impact on patients; physically, psychologically and financially. The consultations can be time consuming and frustrating for clinicians, and lead to multiple referrals. Our management can have a huge impact on patients, both positively and negatively. This interactive session provides strategies to support patients and achieve the best outcomes.

Following this session participants will:

  • Know more about the range of unexplained symptoms that present in primary care
  • Have a greater understanding of the impact of medically unexplained symptoms on patients and health services
  • Have a framework with which to approach supporting patients with medically unexplained symptoms
