Incorporating immunisation into the role of the Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) has limitations and implications to clinical care and should therefore be considered carefully by the whole healthcare team. Training in immunisation is essential for HCSWs whose employers wish them to immunise. It is recommended that HCSWs should only be considered for training where they:
- hold a Level 3 Qualification (e.g. NVQ3, Level 3 diploma, A-levels) or have completed the Care Certificate
And
- have at least two years’ experience as a HCSW
We therefore require a supporting letter or email for each delegate from the practice/line manager stating that the delegate meets the required standards, detailing their length of experience as an HCSW and the qualification they hold and that they are prepared to support the delegate in this extended role.
Course Structure
The training will consist of e-Learning, full day webinar on 06th Jan and a half day practical session either morning or afternoon of 7th January (done via Zoom)
Please select a time via workshops or contact the Training Hub with your preference.
The trainer will cover flu vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine and B12 injections but NOT the nasal flu for children or the shingles vaccine.
Delegates will need to wear face coverings and take their own refreshments to the practical face to face session
The pre-webinar e-learning will be sent out at least 2 weeks ahead of the webinar (along with workbooks and trainee immuniser portfolios) to ensure that delegates have time to complete their e-learning.
