The aim of this workshop is to give managers some simple tools and thoughts that will help them adopt a coaching approach to managing their people. On the global stage of leadership and management, coaching is firmly recognised as a must have skillset for any leader. The benefits of coaching include greater employee engagement, increased motivation, reduction in health and safety incidents, increased productivity, greater overall efficiency, and many other benefits that are widely reported. Within this workshop they look to make the art of coaching simple and accessible for managers, but also relevant to the life of a manager. This is not a coaching course – it is a manager development course that looks at coaching.

Throughout the course you will explore the following questions:

  • What is the role of leadership and management in the workplace?
  • What is coaching and what are the characteristics of coaching?
  • How can coaching skills help us deliver great outcomes for our people and patients?
  • What some tangible skills I can practise to help me develop an effective coaching approach in management?
  • How do we deliver feedback that leads to a mutual coaching conversation?

The workshop will be set up as a safe place of learning. As a manager there can be very little room for experimentation in business as usual activities. This workshop will therefore act as a place where delegates can embrace the vulnerability required to do something new or different and practise their coaching skills before ‘going live’ in their daily operations. The delivery style of this workshop will be interactive. Delegates will mainly be talking to their peers, exploring new or existing thoughts. They will then get the opportunity to practise coaching with one another in breakout rooms.

Upon competition delegates will leave with an understanding of how coaching is relevant to operational management, when and where they can use coaching skills, what the outcome of coaching in management is and what skills they need to practise in order to improve as a manager that coaches others
