This session includes:
- Identify the common symptoms experienced at end of life
- Review the elements of assessment and management of clinical symptoms experienced by patients with palliative disease including: pain, breathlessness, agitation, nausea, fatigue
- Consider malignant and non-malignant disease
- Discuss pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of symptoms
- Explore Holistic assessment and the role of the MDT
- Discuss the concept of Total pain
- Understand when to refer to specialist services
- Recognise the personal impact of working with patients who are dying
