Target audience
First time leaders in healthcare. It’s for you if you are in a ‘formal’ position of leadership with responsibilities for people and services, and able to relate what you learn to your workplace. You must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours of study per week.
The Mary Seacole programme is a 6 month leadership development programme consisting of 12 modules covering leadership fundamentals, leading for improvement and management skills. It will empower you to turn your success into team success and to champion compassionate care. Directly applicable to the workplace, the Mary Seacole Programme leads to an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Healthcare Leadership.
The concept of learning how to be a leader when you’re in the thick of your day-to-day responsibilities can seem rather abstract, but the Mary Seacole programme is grounded in reality and results in real workplace application.
As a result of attending, you will have:
- Encouragement to look within yourself for the right leadership style, rather than comparing yourself to others.
- Increased awareness of yourself and your abilities, enabling you to more clearly identify which styles fit your strengths, your emotional intelligence and how best to use it, and how your behaviours might impact on others.
- The authority, capacity and motivation to implement change.
- The tools to transform emotion into an asset.
- Greater self-awareness and emotional intelligence, enabling you to work with others more effectively.
Assessment
The assessment is based on:
- Online activity and contributing to the online discussion forums throughout the programme.
- Attendance to all three workshops.
- Submission of a 2,000-word assignment demonstrating how you’ve developed and applied your leadership.
Successful completion will lead to an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Healthcare Leadership.
