Professor Manohar Bance, Professor of Otology and Skull Base Surgery, MB, ChB, MSc, FRCS, FRCSC, ABOto

“I have been a sub-specialist in diseases and surgery of the ear for 21 years. I have been actively involved in research in middle ear surgery and how to optimise hearing results for 15 years, I have run a Eustachian tube disorders clinic for 12 years, and am currently involved in research into how to optimise cochlear implant and middle ear implant hearing results. I bring a long history of trying to optimise clinical results by trying to understand the underlying principles and science behind how treatments work. I have been an invited speaker at hundreds of meetings around the world in lecturing on diseases of the ear. I have long experience in revision surgery in many diseases of the ear, having been a tertiary care (ie referral doctor) for other general ENT doctors working on the ear.

I specialise in diseases of the ear, specifically Middle ear hearing loss (middle ear or inner ear) such as otosclerosis, chronic ear disease, perforations of the eardrum. I repair all of these, as well as implant bone conduction hearing devices such as Baha, vibrant or Bonebridge for these conditions Inner ear hearing loss, such as genetic hearing loss, severe and profound hearing loss from any cause that might be amenable to cochlear implants Destructive dieseases of the ear and mastoid: Such as cholesteatoma, treated with mastoidectomy Tumors of the middle and inner ear: Such as vestibular schwannoma, glomus tumors Vertigo: From diseases such as Meniere’s Disease, BPPV, Vestibular Migraine, Superior Canal Dehiscence Eustachian tube disorders such as: Patulous Eustachian Tube, Balloon Dilatation of Eustachian Tube

I estimate I have performed more than 3000 major ear surgeries in my 21 year career in Toronto and Halifax (Canada) in University Positions.

I am the clinical otology liaison to the Emmeline Centre at Addenbrooke’s Hospital

In addition to my clinical work, I am a full Professor at the University of Cambridge”
