Are you in any way responsible for mentoring or supervising clinical colleagues (paramedics, pharmacists, ANPs) in your workplace?

Are you clear about what your responsibilities are when supervising other colleagues?

Do you worry about getting supervision wrong?

Does it worry you giving advice to a colleague about a patient who you have not seen or assessed yourself?

Do you sometimes feel it would just be quicker to have seen the patient yourself when a colleague comes to you with a clinical problem?

If you answered YES to any of the above then this workshop is for you. We will look at the skills required to supervise and mentor colleagues, what to do if problems crop up, how to avoid falling foul of some of the pitfalls (clinical and legal), and how to make best use of our own limited time when colleagues come to us for advice about a patient or other management issue.

During the workshop we will

  • Explore the concepts of mentorship and supervision to help us act appropriately in the multi-professional setting
  • Develop our skills to supervise and mentor colleagues in a multiprofessional environment
  • Help to raise awareness of some of the clinical and legal pitfalls while supervising colleagues and how to avoid them
  • Clarify the roles and responsibilities we should be aware of as colleagues / employers when supervising clinical colleagues
  • Explore how to deal with problems when things go wrong in a sympathetic and non-confrontational way
