How to deliver a quality NHS Health Check’ & ‘Point of Care blood testing’ with Abbott

Who is it for?

All primary care and outreach staff who wish to deliver NHS Health Checks in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough – new starters and experienced.

What is it?

The NHS Health Check programme is a public health programme for 40-74 year olds aiming to keep people well for longer. It’s a cardiovascular risk assessment & management programme (with elements of screening) to prevent or delay onset of diabetes, heart, kidney disease & stroke. What will you learn?

This training session will cover the following;

  • Assist deliverers providing the NHS Health Checks programme deliver a quality service based on the DH guidance on Best Practice and Quality Assurance Standards
  • Build on knowledge, skills and confidence in delivering NHS Health Checks
  • Calculate CV Risk
  • Consider different ways of communicating risk
  • Share your knowledge & experience & highlight your skills & learning needs to deliver quality NHS Health Checks
  • This training also gives an update following the new national Best Practice Guidance Oct 2019
  • Additional training session: Training to cover Point of Care blood testing with Abbott (Alere are now Abbott).

This training is free to Primary Care and outreach staff aiming to deliver NHS Health Checks in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough.

Requests to cancel places on courses must be emailed to Paul Stokes Paul.Stokes@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

If the course is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances by the provider, the provider cannot be responsible for the reimbursement of any additional costs incurred.

Participants MUST book on to attend. Whilst the training is free of charge, there may be a fee if cancellation or failure to attend with less than 48hrs notice.

Interactive remote training sessions for Afinion 2 Lipids & HbA1c testing

Whether you are new to point of care testing for NHS Health Checks or would just like to refresh your knowledge, these sessions are for you

Interactive Remote Training (IRT) classes are live, real-time classes that can be viewed online. via TEAMS.

  • You will be able to see and hear the Abbott trainer host a PowerPoint presentation
  • This session will cover how to set up and look after the Afinion 2 analyser.
  • How to store and prepare test cartridges.
  • How to store and prepare quality controls.
  • How to run a patient test
  • Trouble shooting and maintenance
  • There will be time set aside for you to be able to practice and ask questions

 

For maximum benefit from the session, we recommend you have your analyser with you for the training session, so you can configure your analyser and practice running patient tests.
