Foundations of Diabetes Overview and GLP-1 Agonists
By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:
- Understand diabetes diagnosis and the role of HbA1c in treatment escalation
- Recognise when oral therapy is no longer sufficient, including red flags and sick day management
- Explain the mechanism of action of GLP-1 receptor agonists
- Identify patients eligible for GLP-1 therapy in line with NICE guidance
- Initiate GLP-1 therapies safely and confidently in primary care
- Review patients already established on GLP-1s and assess treatment effectiveness
- Recognise when to step up, switch, or discontinue GLP-1 therapy
- Hold confident, patient-centred conversations about benefits, risks, and expectations
Insulin: Identifying Need, Reviewing Therapy & Confident Conversations
By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:
- Identify patients who would benefit from escalation from oral therapy or GLP-1 receptor agonists to insulin
- Understand the use and mechanism of action of different types of insulin
- Support reviews of patients already established on insulin and assess effectiveness, safety and adherence
- Identify when insulin therapy requires adjustment, intensification or referral
