CPTH is committed to offering and signposting programmes and resources to support PCN development in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Since 2023, we have successfully delivered 12-month PCN development programmes designed with protected funded time. PCNs have been supported with the expansion of learner placements and to strengthen workforce development and sustainability through improved recruitment, retention, and succession planning.

Multi-Professional PCN Learning Organisation (MPLO) offer- exclusive to PCN Change Agents

Unlock funding to grow your future workforce
£1,000 per PCN to become an MPLO

NHSE Primary Care School’s ambition is to increase the number of PCN Multi-Professional Learning Organisations (MPLOs) across the region, supporting the development of a sustainable, home-grown workforce.

As part of the PCN Change Agents Programme, your PCN has been given priority access to Training Hub secured funding to become an MPLO—ahead of the wider rollout to all PCNs across the patch.

This is a valuable opportunity to access early support, build capability, and get ahead in developing your workforce.

Build Capacity and Grow Your Workforce

  • Increase multi-professional educator capacity
  • Enable learners to be hosted across any site within your PCN
  • Support a broader range of student placements
  • This approach strengthens your ability to grow your own workforce pipeline, improving recruitment and retention over the long term.

Work Smarter as a PCN

  • Share supervision across practices
  • Collaborate on inductions, timetables, and placement planning
  • This supports stronger multidisciplinary working and provides economies of scale.

Reduce Administrative Burden

  • Transition to a single PCN-level approval process
  • Remove the need for individual practices to complete re-approval paperwork every 4 years
  • This creates a more streamlined approach and more efficient use of resources across your PCN.

Want to unlock more funding?

As an approved MPLO* you also have the opportunity to apply for an additional £1,000 per PCN. This funding is available to support development of 2 x Pharmacists to become Designated Prescribing Practitioners.

 

* Any approved MPLO (including the 3 already existing in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough) will be eligible for a one-off incentive payment of £1000.

Benefits for the PCN

Helping to develop the local workforce and contributing to producing a pharmacist IP who can your local neighborhood.

And for the Individual

As a DPP they will have the opportunity to learn more about what a pharmacist professional can do in the healthcare team, and is a great example of preceptorship so can be included in the revalidation portfolio.

NEW!  PCN Change Agents Programme

Building on the strong foundation of PCN Training Teams and PCN Workforce and Education Leads, we are excited to launch our latest 12-month PCN development programme: PCN Change Agents.

This programme follows the same proven structure, with one session per month of protected funded time (8 sessions within practice and 4 sessions to attend Training Hub PCN networking & education collaboration events). While continuing to focus on developing and future proofing your workforce, this year’s programme has been specifically designed to support PCNs through a period of significant transformation.

The key goals are to:

  • Challenge and improve organisational culture through NHS People Promise
  • Improve awareness of current relevant TH offers/resources to support workforce development needs
  • Develop & plan future workforce needs/identify wider workforce needs as Neighbourhood working evolves
  • Collaborate/shared learning and best practice across C&P
  • Trouble shoot challenges navigating INT & 10 year health plan 3 big shifts

 

Funding amount: £3,900 per PCN

Time commitment: 1 Session a month (total 12 Sessions).

About previous programmes:

PCN Education & Workforce Development Leads Programme

This programme ran from October 2024 to October 2025. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Training Hub offered 12 months of protected time funded (1 session a month) for PCN Education & Workforce Development Leads. This consisted of 8 sessions within practice and 4 sessions to attend Training Hub PCN networking & education collaboration events. Each PCN lead worked closely with the Training Hub to dedicate time to developing and future-proofing their workforce and learning environments.
