For Practice Managers and Staff responsible for Pension Administration

A practical 3-session programme helping practices administer the NHS Pension Scheme confidently and correctly.

The programme is delivered by Jan Harley-Doyle, NHS Pension specialist and founder of LifeStyle Options®, a CPD-accredited training and consultancy provider specialising in NHS Pension administration.

Why this training matters

The NHS Pension Scheme is complex and frequently misunderstood, yet GP practices are responsible for administering it correctly.

Errors can affect staff pension benefits and may lead to regulatory penalties. Many practices have received little or no formal training in NHS Pension administration.

Overview of the training

A practical step-by-step programme giving practice staff the knowledge and confidence to administer and/or oversee the scheme.

By attending this programme you will:

  • Understand how the NHS Pension Scheme works in practice
  • Avoid common administrative errors
  • Confidently manage pensionable pay and contribution tiers
  • Understand retirement options and key pension events
  • Navigate the Pensions Online system effectively

This programme concentrates on administering the scheme for ‘Officer’ members – that is all General Practice staff excluding doctors. Doctors are classed as ‘Practitioner’ members and for them the scheme is somewhat different.

Who should attend

This is an essential training programme for any General Practice staff with responsibility for managing NHS Pensions. They may carry out all the administrative tasks internally (ie, using the Pensions Online system) or their organisation may choose to outsource the process. However, since employers always retain responsibility for correct administration of the scheme, practices must fully understand how the scheme operates and answer staff queries at key points in their pension journey (mandatory requirement).

Programme Format

This is a 3-session programme, places are limited and participants need to commit to attending all 3 sessions, as each session builds sequentially on the knowledge from the previous session.
