Body image and sexuality are important to our understanding of who we are, illness and treatment can have psychological impact on self-image and this session explores some of the issues around this.

This Study Day is suitable for healthcare professionals who are caring for palliative patients in any setting.

In this course learners will:

  • Discuss the meaning and understanding of sexuality
  • Explore the barriers which affect the health care professional’s assessment of issues relating to body image and sexuality
  • Discuss patients and families’ perceptions of body image and consider the effect of illness and treatment on the patient and family
  • Consider what can you do to support patients to maintain an intimate relationship
