Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG are pleased to announce that we have secured funding to deliver FREE Mental Capacity Act training to all Doctors working in acute clinical settings across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

With the launch of the Liberty Protection Safeguards in 2022 and a new and updated Mental Capacity Act Code of Practice expected to be published soon for consultation, now is the perfect time to enhance your knowledge of the ‘Application of the Mental Capacity Act in Clinical Practice’. The training will be valid CPD in line with the ‘Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff’ and is aimed at both Level 3 and 4 staff competency groups (Registered Health Professionals and Named Leads).

The session will cover:

  • Human Rights, consent and the importance of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) in clinical practice
  • The core principles of the MCA
  • Assessments of mental capacity – roles, responsibilities and recording expectations
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney, Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment and legal arrangements under the Mental Capacity Act
  • Independent Mental Capacity Advocates and ‘serious medical treatment’ decisions
  • ‘Best interests’ assessments and evidencing best interests’ decisions

There is no need to book a space on the session, but in order to receive a certificate of attendance you will need to supply your full name and email address in the ‘chat’ function on Teams during the session, in order for certificates to be shared after the training.
