Event Overview
One Day Essentials is a series of one day online conferences – broadcast live – providing expert specialist clinical training and essential information. These conferences are recorded live and the sessions will be available for delegates to access freely for six months from the conference date.
*Please note we endeavour to upload content as quickly as possible after the conference, but it typically takes 1-2 weeks.
Join us on Thursday 9 March for a one-day interactive online and in-person conference covering a range of essential obesity and weight management topics.
Millions of years of evolution have ensured that humans are biologically programmed to gain weight – through both the physiological responses to food and cognitive responses to external stimuli such as advertising and promotions. It is also increasingly evident that it is harder to afford to eat healthily in the current food policy environment. This event aims to highlight how to practically manage the ‘in your clinic’ presentation of overweight and obesity, review its complications, understand current therapies, address the stigma, and consider the wider social determinants. This includes how to eat healthily on a budget, the health impact of our government’s policies, and using recognised consultation techniques to discuss obesity in primary care. Join us to develop how you identify cohorts and support better choices for your patients, your families, and yourself through an improved understanding of the multifactorial nature of obesity and its societal interconnectivity.
Learning Objectives:
- Increase confidence in identifying, talking to, and managing patients presenting with weight management concerns.
- How to challenge weight-related stigma in the clinic, in policy, and address the lack of services.
- Develop an understanding and discuss with patients’ evidence-based updates in current weight loss therapies including pharmacotherapies, physical exercise, diets and behavioural modification.
- Practical skills-based learning on motivational interviewing, referrals to weight-related services in primary care, myth-busting diets, and looking after the bariatric patient.
- Understand the wider determinants of health and the consequences of obesity, such as the direct and indirect impact on a wide range of disease areas.
