Infection Control

This session will include:

  • Infection Prevention and Control (IPaC) background
  • Reminders of the chain of infection
  • Information on environmental and personal hygiene
  • Specific diseases
  • AMS
  • Information specific to General Practice

Speaker profile:

Nicola Sharp started Nursing in 1982, and quickly developed a special interest in Infection Prevention and Control (IPaC). Since then, she has spent her professional career working in acute, community and Mental Health Trusts, leading IPaC teams, supporting clinical and non-clinical leads with national and local programmes e.g., antimicrobial, water quality, patient safety, staff flu vaccination, cleaning, training, improvement programmes and supporting external assessments and their relevant action plans.

Nicola is passionate about sharing her experience and expertise within IPaC. She is a member of the Infection Prevention Society and has held regional and National roles. Nicola returned from early retirement to work as a part-time practice nurse at Fenland Medical Practice, supporting the practice with her IPaC knowledge and experience.

Perplexing Presentations and Fabricated & Induced Illness

Case-based learning toolkit suitable for primary care clinician peer learning, aimed at meeting SG Level 3 curriculum requirements.

CPD: 1-2 hours participatory L3 Safeguarding education

The aim of this toolkit session is to:

  • Understand the changes in the new 2021 RCPCH FII guidance and applications to General Practice
  • Recognise potential alerting signs of fabricated and induced illness and communication with patients
    around ‘perplexing presentations’
  • Examine risk factors for FII and patterns of presentation
  • Analyse reasons why FII may remain undetected for a long time
  • Understand what actions to take when faced with perplexing presentations or suspected FII

There are 20 places available and priority will be given to Locum GPs.
