This GP education session is being delivered as part of the CPTH GP Education Programme. It is aimed at GPs and ACPs working in General Practice in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Everything you need to know about cardiology in primary care! Pearls from a GPSI.
For this session Dr Rob Howlett, a local GP with a specialist interest in Cardiology, will be developing GP knowledge in Heart Failure. The session will include learning on diagnosis of heart failure in Primary Care and management of heart failure with a focus on how these patients can best be treated and managed in the community with an opportunity for Q&A around the topic area.
The talk aims to give succinct points about current cardiology practice and how it relates to a primary care physician. What does a GP actually need to know?
Topics include:
- What is an ejection fraction?
- Management HF
- Controversies in AF
- Hypertension
- Assessing risk – who should we really treat and at what age?
- Lifestyle and the BIOME – is semaglutide a cardiovascular drug?
- Angina – do stents work?
- Statins and PKS9
You should come away with practical bullet points to apply to your practice, given from the perspective of a primary care physician, not a consultant.
