How much of healthcare is spent treating problems after they happen — and what could we do earlier?

Enhance: Cure to Prevention is a free, face-to-face training day for health professionals from any professional background who are within the first five years of leaving university.

Prevention isn’t the responsibility of one profession or one part of the health service. This event brings early-career healthcare professionals together to explore the practical skills, approaches and system changes that can help us prevent illness, deterioration and avoidable harm.

The day will explore transferable approaches you can use in everyday practice, including:

  • Motivational Interviewing and supporting meaningful behaviour change
  • spotting people at increased risk before things go wrong
  • improving preventative care through team and systems working
  • understanding the major population-health challenges facing UK healthcare
  • tackling health inequalities
  • reducing preventable harm associated with healthcare’s environmental impact
  • working across professional boundaries to consider how existing healthcare resources could be shifted from cure towards prevention

The event is designed for people working across healthcare — including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, allied health professionals, physician associates and other healthcare professions.

You don’t need to work in a role traditionally associated with prevention. The aim is to develop practical, transferable skills and ways of thinking that you can take back to your own patients, teams and services.
