The theory and practice of the HCA role in Primary Care. Includes accountability, supervision, legal frameworks and practical workshops for a range of clinical skills.
All delegates will participate in a skills workshop to learn and practice the necessary skills.
On completion of the course, all delegates will have to undergo a period of supervised practice in their workplace and formal assessment of competency.

  • The law relating to practice, accountability and delegation
  • The relevant anatomy, physiology and various disease processes involved in the procedures
  • Measurement of:
    • Pulse
    • Temperature
    • Respirations
    • Blood Pressure
    • Blood Glucose
    • Peak Flow
    • Urinalysis
    • Pulse Oximetry
    • Basics of ECG recording
    • Documentation and record keeping
    • How to achieve competence
    • Supervision
    • The role of your mentor
    • How to maintain competencies by regular practice and updates
    • Recognition of their limitations and know where to seek help and advice as necessary
