This training is delivered by Dr Sheila Hardy, The Charlie Waller Trust.  Dr Hardy is a dual qualifed nurse (mental health and general) with many years’ clinical experience in primary care and mental health setting.  The training equips nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals working in primary care to ensure patients with mental health problems receive appropriate help.  The training is for healthcare professionals working with adults, though some content may be transferable to childhood presentation.

  • How to assess readiness to change behaviour
  • How to respond to people at each stage of readiness
  • Supporting people to change their behaviour using a structured approach

 

Module 3 – Common mental disorder – Thursday 01st July – 14:00-17:00

  • The conditions which are defined as common mental disorder
  • Screening for depression and anxiety
  • How to use tools designed to assess the severity of depression and anxiety
  • How to assess suicide risk
  • The treatments available for common mental disorder
  • The agencies that offer treatment for common mental disorder

Module 4 – Severe Mental Illness – Tuesday 13th July – 14:00-17:00

  • How a person is affected by severe mental illness
  • How to work with a person with severe mental illness
  • Recognising relapse in mental health
  • The physical health issues in severe mental illness
  • How to make appointments accessible
  • Monitoring physical health in severe mental illness
  • The importance of supporting behaviour change
