Pain Management | One Day Essentials
Persistent pain is one of the commonest and most challenging problems seen in general practice. Yet many GPs feel caught between conflicting evidence, limited treatment options, pressure to prescribe, and patients who are understandably looking for answers.
This practical, one-day conference focuses on what matters most in everyday primary care: understanding persistent pain, communicating effectively, and helping patients make meaningful progress when a cure is not available. Through a series of engaging, evidence-based sessions, delegates will explore the emerging concept of primary persistent pain, the role of the nervous system and life experiences in pain, and what current evidence tells us about medications, psychological approaches and self-management strategies.
The day will place a strong emphasis on real-world consultations. Delegates will gain practical skills for explaining pain in patient-friendly language, managing persistent pain within a time-limited GP consultation, discussing physical activity and lifestyle change, and navigating challenging conversations around opioids and other long-term analgesics. By the end of the conference, attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of persistent pain, greater confidence in managing complex consultations, and a toolkit of practical approaches that can be applied immediately in clinical practice.
