This workshop will provide an opportunity for practice-based or care homes pharmacists, GPs and nurse prescribers to: • Update clinical knowledge • Improve awareness of the latest national guidance • Network with colleagues • Consider local implementation to support best practice and patient care. The workshop will include a mix of lecture-style presentations and case studies plus plenty of opportunities for interaction. It will also support the revalidation process.

Andy Cooke (PrescQIPP Associate Director for Transformation and Partnerships) and Sue Smith (PrescQIPP Head of Education) will deliver the workshop. They will be joined by Mary Weatherstone, NICE Medicines and Prescribing Associate, and will ensure that local priorities are covered.

• Reducing opioid prescribing in chronic pain:

  • Background to chronic pain and national guidance
  • Opioid efficacy and trial of treatment
  • Choice of strong opioid
  • Adverse effects of opioids

• Treatment of neuropathic pain
• Sources of support and information
• Local action planning.
