These sessions are each of up to 90 minutes online, focusing on specific improvement topics and approaches. They are designed to enable those working at practice and PCN level to explore specific topics.

Reliable Design I

Reliable design focusses on how we design reliable processes that lead to consistently good and safe care delivery. This module will introduce the key concepts and principles behind reliable design and consider their relevance in and application to primary care, using examples taken from clinical practice. It will also explore the importance of understanding the reasons behind adverse events in order that harm can be prevented. A step-by-step framework for putting these principles into practice will be introduced so that delegates can take away some practical actions to apply in their own context.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • describe factors affecting safety and reliability in primary care
  • utilise a robust framework that enables teams to build reliability into their processes
  • apply the learning gained to set out practical next steps to ensure processes are safe and reliable

Reliable Design II

This module will enable you to improve the safety and effectiveness of your primary care processes to 95% by using the SAFE approach. This involves the identifying any errors (actual or potential), determining the nature of any contributing failures, prioritising starting points, and determining actions that could be taken to reduce the likelihood of errors occurring or causing harm.

It would be expected for participants have attended Reliable Design I session and have a grasp of the basic theory from this Module.

Participants could bring a standardised process that they wish to improve to 95% reliability but it is not essential. If you are bringing your own process map, please could you let Time for Care have a copy of the process map in advance of the session to enable the facilitators to plan appropriately.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • To understand how reliable processes link to safe outcomes
  • To be able to complete a SAFE assessment of a standardised process

This webinar is for GPs, Practice Managers, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists, anyone in leadership or organisational development roles in primary care.
