This training is available exclusively to staff working within GP surgeries across Cambridgeshire.

This induction programme is designed to equip new practitioners with the essential knowledge, skills, and confidence required to deliver NHS Health Checks in accordance with national and local guidelines.

The training will cover:

  • The purpose, aims, and importance of NHS Health Checks in the prevention and early detection of cardiovascular disease and related conditions
  • Conducting NHS Health Check assessments, including measuring and interpreting BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and diabetes risk factors
  • Effective behaviour change techniques, including motivational interviewing, to support individuals in making and sustaining positive lifestyle changes
  • Communication skills for delivering results, discussing cardiovascular risk, and providing personalised health advice in a supportive and patient-centred manner
  • Understanding local care pathways and referral processes, with a key focus on lifestyle change
  • Accurate data recording, information governance, patient confidentiality, and quality assurance requirements.

By the end of the training, participants will have the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver high-quality NHS Health Checks safely, effectively, and confidently.
