Description

The UKPGx Network and ABPI are jointly holding a Long COVID Workshop via Zoom on Tuesday September 21st.

The workshop will be chaired by Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, Chair of the Commission on Human Medicines. The format will be a series of plenary sessions followed by breakout discussion groups.

Janet Lord, Professor of Immune Cell Biology at University of Birmingham, will provide an explanation of what is meant by “Long COVID”. We will also hear a talk from Dr Paul Edison of the Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine.

Dr Kiren Collison will describe the NHS patient pathway for Long COVID, and Dr Charlotte Summers will discuss finding therapies for post-acute COVID and the HEAL-COVID platform trial.

After a lunchbreak, Dr David Jefferys will talk about medicine development for multimorbidities and then delegates will be split into breakout groups to discuss three questions:

Group 1: How do we tackle Long COVID in the face of uncertainty around prognosis and mechanisms?

Group 2: How do we understand individual predisposition to Long COVID?

Group 3: What can we learn from Long COVID that we can apply to other diseases?

Rapporteurs from each group will present a summary of their discussions.
