The effective assessment and management of wounds requires skills, knowledge and understanding. We firmly believe in the importance of education and the sharing of expertise and experience.
This is a one-day online programme for all clinical staff who are required to manage wounds as part of their clinical practice.
Learning outcomes
- Refresh on the anatomy of the skin and its function
- Explore how wounds heal
- Be orientated to wound assessment using a structured framework
- Learn about dressing selection for common wounds seen in general practice and primary care
- Recognise the risks for developing wound infection
- Be familiar with the signs and symptoms of wound infection including biofilms
- Examine the appropriate use of wound dermal bed swabbing (indications and technique) and tissue sampling
- Recognise when antimicrobial treatment is indicated and on balance the importance of guardianship
- Be familiar with the topical antimicrobial options and their mode of action
- Recognise the steps required to reduce the risk of wound infection and sepsis prevention
