GP Return to Practice Enhanced Induction

Are you a GP practice interested in a funded short term role supporting GPs who have been out of practice to gain confidence and experience again? Perhaps you are looking to recruit a GP as a partner, salaried doctor or retainer? If so, the Training Hub’s Return to Practice Enhanced Induction could be for you.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Training Hub is offering funding for an induction to include 10 clinical sessions over 2-4 weeks at a GP practice in the training hub area.

Practices will need to provide protected time for a suitable GP mentor who will agree a bespoke personalised plan addressing learning needs for the GP looking to return to clinical practice.

This may include sitting-in, refreshing clinical and IT skills and running very low volume surgeries with time to debrief.

The GP practice will be offered £1,000 for arranging the placement and providing working space and IT access. An additional £1,000 will be provided for 10 hours of 1:1 GP mentor time to support the GP looking to return to practice.

The training hub will offer support to the practice and mentor in conjunction with the returning GP to create a personalised induction plan.

The GP looking to return to practice would need to have been out of clinical practice for at least 6 months but less than 24 months and considering returning to full practice or the Retainers’ scheme. They would need to be on the Performers’ List and be an independent practitioner working within their scope of practice and responsible for their own indemnity

The scheme recognises that there are individual circumstances that make return to practice challenging and seeks to help to address these. It also recognises the need for recruitment and retention in general practice.

If you are interested in this scheme, either as a potential returner to practice or as a practice offering to support a returning doctor, please complete and submit the form below, or if you have any questions please email candptraininghub@nhs.net
