Exciting Opportunity for fully Rosalind Franklin Programme – CMI

Neighbourhood teams depend on mid-career leaders to integrate care, manage pressure, and keep staff engaged. Yet, leadership development opportunities in primary care have lagged those in secondary care.

The Rosalind Franklin programme helps close this gap by offering tailored leadership training for practice managers, lead nurses, PCN managers, community pharmacists, and mid-career GPs. It strengthens leadership capability, builds a diverse pipeline of future senior leaders, and supports the government’s three shifts:

Boosting productivity through strong local leadership

Embedding prevention via better coordinated care

Enabling truly place-based services

This is key to delivering the NHS 10 Year Health Plan’s goal of shifting care closer to home.

CMI qualifications are designed to meet the knowledge, skills, and behaviours sought by employers in their workforce. Learners will have the opportunity to achieve CMI Level 7 Award in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice, alongside obtaining the NHS Leadership Academy Award in Senior Healthcare Leadership.

Exciting Opportunity for partially funded Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme

Primary care leaders play a vital role in shaping integrated neighbourhood services, improving patient outcomes, and leading transformation at system level. Yet, senior leadership development in primary care has often lagged opportunities available in secondary care.

The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme addresses this gap by offering advanced leadership training tailored for senior leaders in primary care – including PCN Clinical Directors, senior GPs, practice managers, and system-level leaders. It equips participants with strategic leadership skills, system thinking, and inclusive approaches to drive change across local health economies.

This programme is key to achieving the NHS Long Term Plan’s ambition of shifting care closer to home and strengthening local leadership.

Programme length: 24 months

Delivery method: Blended learning (online modules, residential workshops, and applied projects)

Course Fee: This programme is funded through a dual model: £7,000 by the NHS Leadership Academy and £7,000 by the applicant’s organisation or self-funded.

Start date: February/March 2026

Level 7 Senior Leadership MBA Apprenticeship

We are delighted to inform you about an opportunity to apply and join the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship, contextualised for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System, plus Executive MBA programme, which will be starting in April 2024.

Applications are welcomed and encouraged from a wide range of senior leaders working across the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System.

Applications are now closed

This programme is an ideal opportunity for staff currently in senior leadership / strategic management positions (typically band 7 and above), who are excited to continue their leadership development and achieve their Executive MBA.

The Senior Leader Apprenticeship plus Executive MBA is an apprenticeship development programme that combines working in a senior leadership role, with learning activities ‘on the job’. Those who enrol onto the programme will study new leadership and management knowledge through the modules of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) accessed through Arden University’s digital campus, iLearn. You will attend complete self-guided online lessons, learning the theory and attend live, scheduled virtual teaching sessions during working hours, practising the skills and behaviours that you can apply into your day-to-day role. Applicants will also be allocated a personal coach who will act as a guide throughout the programme to ensure you are effectively applying and evidencing your new leadership and management knowledge, whilst developing and demonstrating new skills and behaviours considered essential for success in your role.

As this is an apprenticeship, CP Training Hub will support you in securing a levy transfer from system partners to cover the full cost of the training. If this is unavailable, CPTH will contribute to the £700 course fee for non-levy payers.

GP CPD Grant

We recognise that leadership skills are fundamental to the positive growth and performance of all organisations, and good leaders are able to motivate, support and retain staff, which for general practice, means a more consistent provision of care to our patients.

We are delighted to offer a grant towards a programme of leadership study for current or new leaders within practices and PCN’s.

GPLD Programme

Primary Care is front and centre of many aspects of the future NHS Plan and the “big three
shifts”. However, we recognise that Primary Care is pressured and very stretched at this
point in our local healthcare systems. Our future will clearly require world class GP leaders
to help with the necessary improvement programmes for the future.
This programme is designed to support GPs ready to lead change at scale – across
Integrated Care Systems, Primary Care Networks and across neighbourhoods – providing
the skills, insights, and networks to step confidently into more senior leadership roles. This
initiative is supported by the NHSE Primary Care Directorate and complements their Peer
Ambassador workstreams. We aim to support up to 30 motivated GP leaders across
England’s 42 Integrated Care Systems, with 20 places fully sponsored.
