Health Professionals and Learners – Accessing Disability Support

Last updated Monday 6th December 2021

A new resource – the ‘Find Your Way’ guide which has a ‘medic focus’ has gone live and is currently being trialled. The resource will be shared with people and organisations working to support medical learners and trainees in the health and care sectors who have a disability, long term physical or mental health condition including the effects of COVID19.

We know that medical learners and trainees may not always feel confident about sharing information on their health or disability. We also know there is a need for a culture shift, so that learners and trainees feel able to have a conversation on support and adjustments. The ‘Find Your Way’ guide is an interactive resource that aims to improve signposting to practical and financial support, including Access to Work grant scheme (Department of Works and Pensions) of up to £63k for eligible applicants. Though the focus is on helping the transition of learners to the workplace, the information on Access to Work grants will also be useful to HEI’s and employers.

The resource is being piloted by Diversity & Ability, in partnership with Health Education England. It has been shaped by the lived experiences of Diversity and Ability and HEE supported learners. We’re keen to receive any feedback or questions about the resource, please submit your feedback by filling in a brief survey or by email to the team
