Transitioning to a Salaried Role

For GPs moving into a salaried role this can be an exciting but also daunting time. We have put together a variety of helpful information in the dropdowns below, to help prepare for what to expect and how to increase your chances of getting the right job at the right Practice.

Our Locum Lead, Dr Richard Maddison is available for informal peer conversations, please email candptraininghub@nhs.net to be connected with Richard.

Our experienced Coaching and Mentoring team are available for career coaching and mentoring to support with the transition, please click here for more information.

  • It is important to think about how you would go about negotiating your salary and ensuring you understand the terms being offered
  • It would be of great benefit to request a suitable induction with your Practice
  • Would you be required to supervise trainees, medical students, AARS role practitioners and if so are suitable, safe systems in place?
  • Are there areas you would like to develop e.g. becoming a Trainer, coil/implant fitting, minor surgery, dermoscopy and are opportunities available within the new Practice?
  • You could consider requesting a ‘mentor’ within the Practice to help with learning new systems etc and for areas not commonly covered during locum work e.g. palliative care
