Are you a Registered Nurse moving into General Practice from other parts of the NHS. The Transition into General Practice Nurse Preceptorship is a 1-year programme of support and education to help you transition into your new role. You’ll benefit from a combination of training, mentorship, peer support and clinical supervision, to help you develop your skills and progress your career in General Practice.

Eligibility

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Training Hub are now able to offer places on the 1-year transition into general practice nurse preceptorship for any General Practice Nurse who is:

  • new to General Practice (not newly qualified)
  • employed in a substantive post in a Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Practice (within the last 3 months)

Programme Highlights

FUNDED DEVELOPMENT TIME 

Practices will receive a financial grant to release preceptees for 1 day per month for a ‘face to face’ workshop to support learning and development.

SUPPORTED INDUCTION

Preceptees will attend the new to practice induction and will be provided with an induction pack.

TAILORED EDUCATION

Preceptees will have a personal development plan agreed with their mentor and support from the Training Hub team to develop their skills and competencies set out in their plan.

This will include GPN proficiencies such as immunisations and vaccinations, cervical screening, long-term condition management.

PEER SUPPORT

Preceptees will attend a monthly peer support and education group to discuss shared experiences, build their understanding of the General Practice working environment and consolidate their learning of new skills.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Preceptees will participate in bimonthly group supervision, creating a safe space to reflect on their experiences and development.

Introductory sessions

Introductory session dates:

Tuesday 22nd October 2024 – Times and venue TBC

Tuesday 26th November 2024 – Full day, venue TBC

Tuesday 17th December 2024 – Full day, venue TBC

Preceptees will then join the main Fellowship on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from Jan 2025 – venues TBC.

Peer Support Group

C&P Training Hub has developed a monthly tailored programme that all Preceptees are expected to attend in protected learning time. These sessions will be facilitated by the CPTH Early Career Nurse Lead. They will include opportunities for peer networking and a range of clinical and non-clinical topic areas with guest speakers who are experts in their field.

Funding

Funding is via a grant to the employing practice, there is no funding direct to preceptees.

£2106 will be allocated to the practice and payment will be received across two instalments:

1st instalment – £1053 in March 2025 (based on attendance of minimum 5 out of 6 sessions)

2nd Payment – £1053 in September 2025 (based on attendance of a minimum 5 out of 6 sessions)
