The two-year GPN Fellowship will support newly qualified nurses to gain experience as a valued member of the primary care team in a supportive environment and help them to develop a broad understanding of the context in which they are working. The Fellowship for GPNs is open to all Nurses who have graduated since January 2020 and who are employed by a Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Practice or PCN.
The Training Hub is committed to ensuring all staff in General Practice have equal access to learning and development opportunities to support the requirements of Primary Care. This includes a commitment to ensure every nurse and allied health professional (AHP) has access to the £1000 personal continuing professional development (CPD) budget (over 3 years) allocated by the chancellor in September 2019 as part of government’s pledge to secure a sustainable future for the NHS through the Long Term Plan.
The Training Hub supports students and HEIs within the region to allocate placements and also arrange shadowing opportunities in Primary Care.
Feedback: “I’ve just completed my three days observation of practice nursing. I really enjoyed it. It was so helpful and arranged a very varied three days, observing general appointments and time with the diabetic, family planning and asthma/COPD specialist nurses, and a baby immunisation clinic. I liked the huge variety of work that practice nurses do, and the autonomy but with the support of a great team. Practice nursing is definitely top of my list of career options after this experience. Thank you again for arranging this opportunity.”
