C&P Flexible Locum Staff Bank – Information for Practices

Last updated Thursday 15th June 2023

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Training Hub have commissioned Lantum since August  2021 to provide a flexi bank service for practices and clinical staff in general practice.

We have received the following statement from Lantum regarding the publicised potential security alert affecting doctors registered prior to 2016. They have advised us that they have contacted affected individuals by email. Any queries are being directed to the following contact email address: support@lantum.com

“We have been alerted to the existence of a potential vulnerability relating to historic data held on an old website “Network Locum” that has been out of use since 2016. We were able to take action to ensure that the data was fully secured and made inaccessible. The data includes detailed personal information about healthcare professionals that have used our services in the past, and we have advised those potentially affected to take precautions to protect their identity. While this data may have been accessible to unauthorised individuals, there is currently no indication that data has in fact been accessed and no reason to suspect that this is the case. We are, however, treating this matter as a potential data breach and will continue to liaise with any individuals who may be affected should more information be revealed by our investigations. The data in question relates to documents uploaded between 2014 and 11th September 2016. This data was stored on an old version of the Lantum platform “Network Locum” that is no longer live which Lantum migrated away from as part of an upgrade in September 2016. We would stress that since 2016, we have been operating on a completely different and highly secure platform, which conforms to the latest UK government approved and international security standards and undergoes regular testing. So there are no grounds for any concern regarding security of information that has been provided to Lantum since 2016. We have informed the regulator and have brought in specialist privacy and cyber consultants to investigate further and advise on any additional steps we may need to take. We will update you as soon as we know more. If we determine that it is likely that your information was in fact affected by a data breach, we will provide an explanation of the potential consequences and advice on steps to mitigate those consequences. Our Data Protection Officer is Gary O’Connor and our support team can be contacted at support@lantum.com if you have further questions.

Best wishes, Melissa Morris (CEO) and Dr Ishani Patel (Co-founder) Lantum”

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS has chosen Lantum as a partner to create a system-wide, multidisciplinary staff bank.

The digital staff bank will transform how you manage your workforce by giving your practice access to a larger pool of staff from across your ICS, who can be booked wherever they’re needed. This bank will firstly include GPs but will be expanded to incorporate other clinical staff types in the future.

Your new digital staff bank will help build resilience, save time, and save money.

Who is funding the staff bank and what will it cost my practice?

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS is covering the cost of creating the staff bank.

After that, you’ll just pay 1% fees for any bookings you make through the bank (which is much lower than locum agency fees!)

What is Lantum?

Lantum is a digital workforce platform that lets you manage staffing end-to-end with just one tool. ICSs like Greater Manchester and Our Dorset are already using it and seeing amazing results.

As well as a staff bank, Lantum offers access to a network of 30,000 nationwide clinicians available for locum bookings at 10% fees, as well as an integrated rota tool that makes scheduling staff quicker and easier. For now, your ICS is just funding the staff bank.

Why is your ICS creating a staff bank?

To build resilience

Having access to a staff bank will make it easier for you to fill shifts – even when cancellations are made at the last minute. This helps you to deliver services effectively, and takes some pressure off your existing staff. It will also make it easier to collaborate with nearby practices and PCNs, and share unused resources.

To save money

The staff bank will help reduce your spend, as you’ll no longer need to pay high agency fees to book locums – instead you can book trusted staff from your ICS for just a 1% fee.

To reduce time spent on admin

Having one platform to manage all bookings reduces administration time significantly. With verified clinical governance documents on staff profiles, compliance is much easier to track. With automatic notifications, you no longer need to contact staff individually about shifts. Lantum consolidates statements, so you make just one payment rather than multiple. And, with the direct messaging tool, you can keep communication in one place and ensure all rota managers have full visibility.

How will the staff bank work?

  1. The staff bank includes profiles of staff across your ICS, complete with details about their experience, skills and clinical governance documents.
  2. Your practice posts vacant shifts on Lantum, and staff in your ICS apply for them on the Lantum app.
  3. Your practice accepts an application from the staff member you’d like to cover your shift, and they are automatically notified of the booking.
  4. After the shift, Lantum can automatically pay staff the next day. You can also set up automatic signing of digital pension forms for GPs.
  5. On a weekly or monthly basis, Lantum provides a consolidated statement and invoice for all sessions booked, so you have one simple payment to make.
