ARRS GP Support & Development Programme

CPTH are excited to launch our newly enhanced ARRS GP Support & Development Programme, tailored to support GPs employed under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough practices.

What is it and who is it for?

A programme of up to 18 months* access to education, mentoring and peer support.

Eligibility: GPs employed under the ARRS within a Cambridgeshire & Peterborough practice can apply for this programme. Limited places available.

The enhanced programme now includes:

  • An initial welcome 1:1 with a member of the CPTH GP team to discuss the programme support and answer any questions
  • A funding contribution to the practice to support the provision of an in-practice mentor
  • An invitation to participate in the monthly GP Fellowship education sessions – designed to meet the education needs of First5 GPs
  • Access to up to 6 sessions of independent coaching and mentoring with a Training Hub mentor
  • First 5 Peer Group support
  • Access to specific ARRS GP WhatsApp peer group
  • Training Hub education and development offers and resources

In-practice Mentoring

CPTH will provide a funding contribution to support a minimum of one hour per month 1:1 in-practice mentoring with a named GP mentor. This funding is calculated based on a maximum of £750.00 for the full 18-month programme, pro rata in the event of reduced programme length.

The practice in which the named mentor is primarily based (or parent organisation if applicable) will be the organisation required to invoice us for payment of the funding as per the funding schedule provided on approval of application.

Education Programme

C&P Training Hub has developed a tailored programme of early career education sessions. These are facilitated by the CPTH Early Career GP Lead and CPTH Education Fellow and delivered by experienced clinicians and trainers. This programme is constantly evolving and details can be found on the Education Programme web page.

Coaching & Mentoring

Access to a Training Hub GP mentor who has completed training in mentoring and coaching, for up to 6 sessions of 1:1 discussion. These discussions can help guide the ARRS GP in their career development, help them find strategies to manage work-life balance, time management and a host of other topics relevant early in a GP career.

Peer Support

There is a dedicated ARRS GP WhatsApp group to help networking, sharing thoughts, discussing challenges and accessing advice or signposting. Once enrolled in the programme a link to join the WhatsApp group will be provided.

C&P Training Hub also has an early career GP team covering the area, building peer support networks for First5 GPs working around Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The format of these varies including face-to-face or virtual evening meetings and WhatsApp groups. Find more information on Peer support here.

QI Projects

Although not mandatory, we do strongly encourage you to take the opportunity to undertake a Quality Improvement project during the programme and the CPTH team will be happy to support with this.

*Length of Programme

The length of programme will depend on the date of enrolment and type of employment contract. The programme is currently intended to run until 31 March 2027, or to the end of the ARRS GP’s fixed term contract if sooner. (Please note for those transferring from the old ARRS support programme, the maximum length is 18 months total across both.) The length of programme will be confirmed on approval of application or transfer.

Funding

This programme is funded by CPTH and does not include any financial payments direct to the ARRS GP. The only funding is as described in the In-practice Mentoring section above.

Please note:

  • Once enrolled, it is the responsibility of the employer and the ARRS GP to advise CPTH of any change that materially affects funding or participation in the programme, including but not limited to the end of ARRS funding for this GP’s role, end of Fixed Term Contract, change in role or contract such as moving to a permanent/salaried contract, end of employment, commencement of maternity or other period of extended leave etc.
