We understand that managing a practice entails an enormous range of responsibilities and we are here to provide support with training, education programmes, new workforce initiatives and funding opportunities.
Workforce
General Practice Fellowship
The General Practice Fellowship is an NHS England funded 2-year programme of financial and practical support for practices to help recruit and develop newly qualified GP and Nurses.
GP Trainer Funding
We have GP Trainer expansion funding available to support GPs to become trainers. We are also offering funding to support Practices in becoming Training Practices.
People Performance Management Toolkit: make time to talk about all aspects of performance
Whether you are a new or experienced people manager, the People Performance Management (PPM) Toolkit provides practical support and aims to help you develop the skills needed to deal with key management situations confidently and consistently.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships enable new and existing staff to train on the job, through a work-based training programme that incorporates skills development, technical knowledge and practical experience, while getting paid. They can offer practices a cost-effective way to attract and develop a more diverse, skilled, flexible and motivated workforce.
Improving Staff Retention
The retention team has worked closely with systems to support them to improve staff experience, retain our NHS people locally and undertake a range of actions to help staff feel valued, through the themes in Our People Promise
Placements in Primary Care
General Practice is particularly suited to supporting the development of healthcare students due to the wide range of learning opportunities and types of patient contact that take place in this clinical setting. It is also a great setting to support the development of staff and provide opportunities to upskill through many programmes.
NHS Leadership Academy Apprenticeship Pathways

NHS Looking After Our People – Retention Programme
Through the Looking After Our People – Retention Programme, the NHS wants to support systems and organisations to value and retain their people. Bringing together national experts and local experience to offer information, tools and practical support for systems and organisations across the NHS to help you deliver the NHS People Promise.
Becoming a UK Visa Sponsorship Practice
You need a sponsorship licence to employ someone to work for you from outside the UK. Gaining the right to be a UK visa sponsoring practice has many advantages and could form an important part of your general practice workforce planning.
New Roles in Primary Care
14 new roles have been introduced into Primary Care with funding support from the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS), introduced in the 2019 GP Contract. CPTH is supporting Cambridgeshire & Peterborough practices to introduce, support, embed and train these new roles.
Personalised Care
Personalised care represents a new relationship between people, professionals and the system. Working closely with partners, the NHS will roll out personalised care to reach 2.5 million people by 2023/24 and then aim to double that again within a decade.
